Franglais, denglish et autre Wirrwarr!

I entered the café, j’ai essayé de commander einen Milchkaffee.

Je voudrais un café au lait et un croissant, s’il vous plait!“ – „Card  or cash?”

“Card” –  “Hier bitte”

“Merci, tschüss” –  “Äddi”

Je suis sortie the café and was flabbergasted für einen Moment.

“Wow! Wow.” – that’s peut-être the most universal Wort. “Wow!” C’est possible ? Incroyable, unbelievable und einfach unfassbar ! Speaking and thinking en multiple langues n’est pas forbidden ?

A l’école, nous étudions le Français, l’Anglais, l’Allemand et l’Espagnol ! You had to have die besten Noten in allen subjects. A l’école nous étudions to become even better, to copy, no, imitate die Akzente der Muttersprachler :innen. And I recall that les professeurs toujours mettaient un verre d’eau auf dem Schreibtisch. That’s water [?w?t??] ou water [?w??t?] - but it’s also Wasser [?vas?] or agua [?a?wa] or eau [ju?]. All la même chose !

A l’école, we had individual subjects : Monday afternoon English, mercredi matin le français, Donnerstagmorgen Deutsch e mañana de viernesl’espagnol ! Tous les sujets catégorisés carefully separated and individually graded. Et maintenant je sens comme I can speak none of the languages properly. Ich kann meinem Kopf nicht sagen : today is Monday let’s think entirely in English, ou c’est mercredi : je dois réfléchir et parler seulement en Français.

Je ne peux pas catégoriser when my brain thinks in what language. Es ist eine Mischung of all the languages, mainly English, hier und da etwas Deutsch et parfois, un petit peu de français.

What word is it ? Was fühlt sich am ‘richtigsten’ an ? Quel mot est le plus authentique pour moi? Il y a un problème : All of these languages are a part of me ; different parts of myself. But when they are all me – ou est ‘home’? Not just “la maison”, ou “ma maison”. Zuhause, home. Das ist different, anders; closer to le cœur, mon cœur, my own…Herz.

Ich fühle mich einfach nicht complete when I am just speaking one language long-term. It's not franglais or denglish – it’s all of those et beaucoup plus! It’s allowing a bit of linguistic mess hier und da, au lie de tying my brain to only one language’s pool of vocabulary.

Mon ordinateur portable can’t grapple that. Red squiggly lines under fast jedem zweiten Wort. Even if I tick the box of “detect language automatically”, le système est confus. But that’s exactly why you should do it. Défier le système und fordere die Menschen heraus. Was ist das Schlimmste, was passieren kann ? Vous ne comprenez pas ? You have to solve a linguistic riddle ?

Plus de stress à avoir perfectly formed sentences in every language. This is to Wirrwar and taking pride in pauses, in ums… ähs… euhs…

Stolz darauf sein, mehrere Sprachen sprechen zu können, taking pride in being bilingual et d’être locuteur d'une langue seconde!
