Dancing in the rain

For a moment you look down on the world you used to know
Its shadowy figure gets thinner and thinner
Light picks it up from the sides and lifts it
Far above your head.
The sunrise is a smile
It laughs with clouds on it’s cheeks.
You stare and stare until your eyes burn.

They burn with the fire of the laughing sunrise,
With the weight of the tears you’ve never cried,
Your eyes burn with the lightning of a thousand storms and
you let them burn.
You witness your strength be lifted along with that shadowy figure of the world
The fire, the storm, the tears are gone
There is nothing left

One step, and another, and another
Until all that stands in front of you
Is a smile
But this one is different
This smile not a sunrise
It is empty, there is no light here
You look down again, between the tall buildings

You see a gaping, bloody smile
With teeth made of steel
And a tongue made of asphalt
It's not the smiling sunrise
The smiling sunrise isn't any of those things
But you look down at the gaping smile anyway
Wondering about the dark streets bellow

It’s a world you do not know
A world full of people who don’t look up
A world full of women and men and children
And just like you
They look down
But something is wrong because they’re not here
High up in the sky, looking away from the smiling sunrise and towards the dark streets bellow

You can almost see them move, like little snowflakes,
pale and hurried and cold
Those people are the same
So why do they feel so different
Why are you different
Why is it not the same for you
It could have been

Just one more step
It’s not that hard
You’re so close
Its not that hard
You’re already here
It’s not that hard
What else can you do
It’s not that hard
Just take the fucking step
You’re useless
Unworthy, unwanted
Its not. that. hard.
The thinking is stopping you
Just stop thinking

It’s not that hard

You stare and you think
It all happens so fast
You think just one more step
You think, where to
It’s not that hard
You think, I’ve been here before
It’s not that hard
You think, what do I want to do
Its not that hard
You think, I can take a step
It’s not that hard
I’m not that useless
I’m not unwanted or unworthy
It just gets hard sometimes

You look up, for a change
At the smiling sky, and the laughing sun
At it’s cloudy cheeks and the bristle rain
And you laugh
You let yourself be
One with the sky, the sunrise
The clouds turn into your cheeks

The rain turns into your tears
And for the first time in forever
You feel yourself belong
You feel like those people bellow
You feel scared of life
But not prepared for it to end
And you think, that’s fine

You remember
Taking that last step
Stepping away from the darkened
Fickle smile of an ending
And treading lightly
Towards the welcoming arms
Of a beginning

And as you stepped away
You remember
Dancing
You danced with the sun,
With the sky
You danced on the clouds
And you danced with the rain
