The promised tomorrow

The Promised Tomorrow

Made by Arnit Dey

They promised us ...we believed,

To a land of freedom,

To the road of tomorrow.

Stepping out from our shadows,

Wading through the mud,

Sinking through the sand,

Our clothes held together by threads of our will,

We carried on in search of tomorrow.

Blood, tears,sweat all shed,

Our hopes held together under our battered bones,

Gathering the darkness in an embrace,

The hopeful and the dead danced together,

As we inched along on a promise,

As we carried on in search of tomorrow.

Finally they said …we had arrived...

Greeted by stench that pierced our souls

With hollow eyes and hollow smiles.

A skeleton woman looked deep through me,

I remembered my mud house with a thatched yellow roof,

Mother was that you calling?

My dead brother lay smiling on my barren arms,

Tomorrow, are you still calling?
